Dual-Band SIW Band-Pass Filter Using Defected Ground Structures

This paper presents a modification of a previously reported single-band substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) bandpass filter to achieve dual-band performance. By introducing two vertical slots in the ground plane and increasing the port spacing, an additional resonant mode is generated without significantly enlarging the circuit size. Full-wave simulations using HFSS show that the proposed structure operates at 3.14 GHz and 4.43 GHz with reflection coefficients better than −24 dB. The corresponding insertion losses are approximately 0.6 dB and 0.7 dB, respectively. The proposed method provides a simple and efficient way to transform conventional single-band SIW filters into dual-band devices.
